Car packed
everything
squeezed in place
My life in this place -
about to drive away

Blankets
books
a wicker chair
gift of a friend.

Never
to have contemplated
this day.

429
this is my room
here is my letterbox.

Jay
Tom
Steve
and
Jim
yes,
Jim

So many
so many new faces
new interactions.
Primary
and
Secondary
with the same
same
same
people.
Now
everything
everyone
new.

Stacks
of
books.
Food
fit
for
prisoners -
powdered eggs
powdered potatoes
a wall of sugar cereal.
Prisoners
nursing home residents
being forced
this same gruel.
I am told,
it costs a few cents
to feed us,
feed.

Autumn colours come,
cold wind moving down the Plains.

So nervous -
will I make it.
Creating a tune to comfort myself,
humming it 41 years later.

Some,
some
sincere
lecturers
but
politics
everywhere.

Life is fun -
I google some of these people
after all of these decades
and
their end
has been
precisely
what
you
might
have
anticipated.
