Sometimes, I wonder if the darkness is real.
You can’t see it,
You can’t feel it,
You can’t touch it.
Have we created it?
I stepped into the forest at night,
I could see a dim outline of the trees,
as they would appear during the day.
They looked the same as that afternoon,
yet slightly veiled.
They were there,
just the same.
It must be me that was different.
I must be seeing them differently,
even though they are the same.
Is everything like this -
always the same,
but it is me that is different.
Is the sky always blue - or not blue.
Are the stars always available.
It is me that changes,
I lash out at an unchanging universe,
imagining it to be different,
when it is really my eyes,
my thought processes,
that have changed.
Oh, unchanging universe,
changing me.
