She went down a corridor,
the entrance to which I had never seen before.
Had it always been there,
just at the corner of my vision,
in clear sight.
She darted in so quickly,
I hardly noticed her gone.
She scurried,
as if late for something urgent.
I called out,
but she did not turn.
Her back to me -
she disappeared in the shadows.
Should I follow her down this unknown way,
or perhaps wait for her return.
I knew this latter option was not available,
as she would never return.
I wept at the entrance,
it was dark and forboding.
One quick rush and I would be after her -
but had she really taken this exit, or another.
I began to doubt my memory,
but decided to keep the corridor in mind,
for a day,
when I,
like her,
would select it,
without doubt,
without trepidation.
Until then,
wait there for me.
