First Post
This is the first post since I changed the emphasis of this site to science fiction. I found myself considered what would be the first thing I would discuss. It was between Star Trek and The Martian Chronicles. Trek was in syndication from 1966 - 1969 and I was born in 1967. Some of my earliest memories were watching Trek with my brothers.
The Martian Chronicles was different. I read it when I was ten. It was one of the first books I ever remember reading. I was captivated. Then, the TV movie came out and I was glued to the screen each evening. Add to this, I have a great deal of respect for Ray Bradbury, as he was a “self-made man” intellectually.
So, Bradbury and TMC it is!
I first envisaged the cosmos with Bradbury. I first saw the landscape of another world in my mind’s eye with Bradbury.
I clutched that book walking home from school, eager to find out what was happening next. It felt like a new friend. I imagined what colonising Mars might really be like. I yearned for something more vast than my tiny hometown.
My mind began to expand in ways that were necessary to get me along in life - including moving across the planet to the Southern Hemisphere.
Thank you, Ray!
Kia kaha!
