You believe they have something to teach you,
You sit at their feet hanging onto every word.
They seem so wise,
so far ahead on the path.
But the moment,
the very moment,
that you begin to practice ahimsā,
you switch places.
If they do not live the compassion of non-violence,
they are not more advanced than you.
They should be sitting at your feet.
Yes, they might have techniques to teach -
from breathing,
to meditation,
to other practices,
but they are not your spiritual superior.
You are the master,
they are the student.
Ahimsā is the first step in the path.
